Summer 2026 is the last academic term that DCIS will be the iMED health insurance provider for UBC.  For Winter Term 1 2026 UBC has contracted with a new insurance company, starting August 10, 2026.

NOTICE for iMED members under Group Policy PM8686125:
In addition to usual stipulations about Coverage Extension requests, August 31, 2026 is the latest possible effective date for an iMED Coverage Extension.  Requests to extend coverage under policy PM8686125 for an extension effective date of September 1, 2026, or beyond cannot be processed and will be declined.  If you need additional medical coverage but are not eligible to extend coverage under iMED contact DCIS to inquire about other medical insurance options.

Students who have longer to wait for BC MSP

Students who face a delay in their BC MSP enrolment: may apply for iMED extension on a month-to-month basis if you will remain a registered UBC student during the requested extension period.

Students with iMED coverage for the duration of their one-term program:

On a case by case basis, you may apply for iMED extension to cover a limited number of days to wrap up your personal effects in BC before your travel back to your home country.

To apply, submit the iMED extension application form (PDF) to DCIS before your iMED expiry date.

Please Note:

  • If your iMED coverage has already expired, you may not extend iMED, however DCIS can offer other temporary health insurance options.
  • Extension of iMED coverage is not offered for personal vacation or leisure travel after completion of a student’s UBC study term. DCIS offers other medical insurance options for personal travel in Canada, USA, and other worldwide destinations.
